DETAILS:

The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music presents a concert featuring the Catholic University Chorus and Chamber Choir conducted by Leo Nestor. The organists are Robin Williams and Olivia Buthod.

Titled "Music for the Theotokos - Music for the Light," the concert is a celebration of Theotokos, which means Birth-giver of God or Mother of God, a title for Mary that is used in the Eastern Church. At a time of year when the day and its sunlight are waning, the concert will highlight the themes of darkness and, more important, light, Nestor says.

Evoking both Eastern and Western themes and texts, the concert selections will include an Orthodox chant juxtaposed to a Gregorian chant. Other selections will include Ferko's "O Gracious Light," Bruckner's "Ave Maria," Mendelssohn's "And Then Shall Your Light Break Forth" and Nestor's "Virgin Great and Glorious."

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 202-319-5416 or visit http://music.cua.edu.
