Expert on Gulf of Mexico Oil Discovery Available at CUA

Kevin Forbes, director of the Center for the Study of Energy and Environmental Stewardship at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., is available to discuss the discovery of new oil in the Gulf of Mexico. For assistance in reaching Forbes, contact Katie Lee at 202-319-5600.

  • OIL AND GAS SUPPLIES - Kevin Forbes, who also is chair of CUA's Department of Business and Economics, has researched energy markets for more than 15 years, with much of his focus on oil and natural gas supplies. He is the co-author, with CUA Professor Ernest Zampelli, of an article on technology's impact on oil and gas supplies in the Gulf of Mexico titled "Technology and the Exploratory Success Rate in the U.S. Offshore," published in a 2000 issue of The Energy Journal.

Currently he is finishing up a major study that examines the adequacy of natural gas reserves in the Gulf of Mexico. He will present his study results at an energy conference at the end of September sponsored by the U.S. Association for Energy Economics. His lecture on the globalization of oil and gasoline markets (presented at a CUA globalization conference last year) is expected to be published shortly as a book chapter.

Forbes also is an active participant in Stanford University's Energy Modeling Forum, which brings together energy experts from government, industry, universities and other research organizations to discuss critical energy and environmental issues.

In addition to examining oil, natural gas, and gasoline markets, Forbes also is conducting a National Science Foundation-funded study on power grids, including those that serve New York, the mid-Atlantic region, most of Texas, California, England and Wales, New Zealand, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Forbes can be reached at 202-319-4794 (office) or 202-329-5550 (mobile) or by e-mail: forbes@cua.edu.
