Catholic University's Department of Drama will present "The Perfect Game," an original musical by CUA alumnus and Connecticut composer/playwright John Grissmer. Grissmer weaves the story of the invention of basketball and weaves it into the modern-day struggle of a local team hoping to make the championship. Two modern-day coaches of the game, Nancy (whose self-consciousness stems from an on-court injury early in her career) and Frank (who has spent most of his career on the sidelines) fall in love while trying to keep their team focused on the big game. Grissmer transplants Dr. James Naismith, the 1891 inventor of basketball, into their world, allowing him to see how his little game has become a worldwide phenomenon. A quirk of time and fate has brought them the three together on the court where life, love and the big game are all on the line.

Carrie Klewin, an M.F.A. directing student, directs the play, which brings together students from both CUA's drama department and music school.

The event is free and open to the public. Reservations can be made by calling 202-319-4000 or visit
