At 2 p.m. on Friday, April 11, the chair in which Pope Benedict XVI will sit during his speech at CUA will be delivered to campus. Those who participated in the chair’s creation — four CUA students, as well as volunteers from Sterling, Va.’s Jefferson Millwork & Design Inc. — will be on hand at the unveiling. Very Rev. David M. O’Connell, C.M., university president, will also attend.
The chair was designed by CUA School of Architecture and Planning students Siobhan Steen, of Paris, France, Javid Farazad of Bethesda, Md., Doug Pettit of North Branford, Conn., and Christopher Fullam of Reading, Pa. The chair will be used in the Pryzbyla Center, where Pope Benedict XVI will give a major address on Catholic education on April 17. Steen, Farazad and Fullam are undergraduates in the School of Architecture and Planning. Pettit is a candidate in the school’s master’s program.
The students were aided in the construction of the chair by Jefferson Millwork & Design Inc. in Sterling, Va. The mill donated staff labor for the chair.
Friday will be the only opportunity, prior to the papal address, for media to view the chair.
