CUA Named to Community Service Honor Roll

The Catholic University of America has been named to the 2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, which recognizes colleges and universities that support innovative and effective community service and service-learning programs.

The Honor Roll is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and is sponsored by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, the USA Freedom Corps and the U.S. departments of education and housing and urban development.

Of the 528 schools named to the Honor Roll, CUA was the only university located in Washington, D.C., to receive the award.

Some of the factors used for selection include the innovativeness and effectiveness of community service, the percentage of student participation in community service and whether community service or service-learning is cited in the institution's mission statement or strategic plan.

Applications for the honor were reviewed by staff and officials from the sponsoring organizations, higher education faculty and service-learning practitioners.

This is the second year for the Honor Roll and the first year CUA has been named to the list.
