His Royal Highness Prince Firas bin Raad of Jordan will give a lecture titled "Social Development and Social Policy in the Middle East." Firas will speak as a guest lecturer for the Global Disabilities Policy class taught by Leszek Sibilski, adjunct professor of sociology, as part of Disability Awareness Month.

Firas will deliver a talk on human development trends and challenges in
Jordan, including how to translate economic growth into more expansive job creation opportunities and implement effective social assistance strategies to help the poor and vulnerable groups in society. He will emphasize social assistance strategies, particularly current policies to support the rehabilitation and integration of persons with disabilities. These policies cover the areas of accessibility, education and employment for the disabled.

The prince has been a health policy specialist and consultant for the Middle East at the World Bank since 2002. Before joining the bank, Firas served as His Majesty's private secretary for Health Affairs in the Royal Court in Ammam, Jordan. He is also a graduate of the Harvard School of Public Health and a former Fulbright Scholar.
