CUA Football Team Wins Southeast Bowl

The CUA football team defeated Johns Hopkins University 18-17 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southeast Bowl in Baltimore on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Prior to this season, the Cardinals had advanced to post-season games in 1936, 1939, 1997, 1998 and 1999. Of these five games, CUA won only one, the 1936 Orange Bowl, when the Cardinals upset Mississippi, 20-19.

When the team's current seniors were in their final year of high school, the Cardinals finished the season at 0-10. This year, the team accomplished a feat that has been accomplished only three times in CUA football history: nine wins in a single season. It finished the season with a 9-2 record.

Senior defensive lineman Dean Petrone was named Most Outstanding Player of the game. He finished with 13 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
