Catholic University Christmas Recess

The Christmas holidays begin on Friday, December 19, at the close of business and the university re-opens on Monday, January 5, at 9 a.m.

To conserve energy and to achieve cost savings, almost all buildings on campus will be completely closed. Heating in buildings will be set to minimum levels. In the event of inclement weather, snow removal and salting will be limited. If entry to buildings is absolutely essential for individual university faculty and staff members while the university is closed, they must arrange such access in advance, before December 18, with their cognizant vice president. This is important for the reasons stated above, as well as for ensuring the safety and security of everyone who does have a need to be on campus while the university is closed.

To follow is a listing of what is closed and what is open during the Christmas recess:

Nugent Hall/Office of the President will be closed from 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, until 9 a.m. on Jan. 5, 2009.

The following offices and buildings will be closed, with no access provided, from Saturday, Dec. 20, until Monday, Jan. 5, 2009:

  • All Administrative Offices of Student Life
  • Pryzbyla Center
  • Office of Enrollment Management (including Admissions, Financial Aid and Registrar)
  • Offices of Academic Administration and Academic Deans
  • Columbus School of Law building
  • Mullen Library
  • Leahy Computer Lab
  • Office of University Development (including Development Services)
  • Cardinal Station Post Office
  • Cashier's Office in Leahy Hall

CUA Bookstore will be closed to the public from Saturday, Dec. 20, through Friday, Jan. 2, 2009. It will reopen to accommodate law school students needing to purchase textbooks on Saturday, Jan. 3 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). NOTE: The rest of the Pryzbyla Center will remain closed to the public until Jan. 5. The bookstore can be accessed by the entrance near the McMahon Parking lot; signs will be posted.

Eugene I. Kane Student Health and Fitness Center will be closed, with no access provided from Monday, Dec. 15, until Monday, Jan. 12, 2009.

Raymond A. DuFour Center will be closed to the general public from Saturday, Dec. 20, until Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, except for scheduled games, supervised basketball and swimming practices, gym maintenance and a registration-only baseball camp.

Office of Public Safety will be open with limited staff throughout Christmas recess.
