Twenty years after Pope John Paul II issued Mulieris Dignitatem, his groundbreaking apostolic letter on the dignity of women, The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law and Ave Maria School of Law are sponsoring a conference to reflect on both the progress and the future of women and men. The conference will draw leading scholars from around the United States, Europe and Canada.

Conference participants from CUA include Veryl V. Miles, dean and professor of law, who will provide introductory comments; Maria Sophia Aguirre, associate professor of business and economics, who will speak on "The Feminine Vocation and Economics;" Robert A. Destro, professor of law and director of CUA's Interdisciplinary Program in Law and Religion, who will serve as a panel moderator; and Mary Leary, associate professor of law, who will speak on "Mulieris Dignitatem, Pornography, and the Dignity of the Soul: An Exploration of Dignity in a Protected Speech Paradigm."

Ave Maria School of Law faculty participating in the conference are Associate Professor Jane Adolphe, who will speak on "The Logic of Violence: The Abortion Policy of Amnesty International in Light of Mulieris Dignitatem," and Assistant Professor Joseph Isanga, who will speak on "Mulieris Dignitatem, Ephesians 5 and Domestic Violence: Anchoring International Women's Human Rights."

Conference participants from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at The Catholic University of America include Margaret Harper McCarthy, assistant professor of theological anthropology, who will speak on "Equality: Something Not to Be Grasped at," and Mary Shivanandan, professor of theology, who will speak on "Motherhood-Virginity."
