Statement from CUA President on Metrorail Accident

"The Catholic University of America joins with all our neighbors in the Washington metropolitan area in expressing our prayers and support for the victims of Monday's accident on Metro's Red Line," says Very Rev. David O'Connell, C.M., president of The Catholic University of America.

"To our knowledge, only one member of the CUA community was on board one of the subway trains at the time of the collision and, fortunately, he was not seriously injured," Father O'Connell adds.

"The university is served by the Red Line and has its own stop, Brookland-CUA. Such incidents are a sobering reminder of the fragility of human life and of our solidarity with our neighbors."

"We offer our prayers for those who died and for their families as well as for those who sustained injuries. We, likewise, express our gratitude to those emergency and Metro personnel who offered immediate and compassionate service to all those involved in this tragedy. May our gracious and loving God be our strength at this sad and difficult time."
