Looking South to the Future

Sidewalk cafes, restaurants, artists’ studios, shops, a clock tower and a spacious public square ... “We want to build a quality campus main street for you at Catholic University,” said Jim Abdo, president of Abdo Development, as he talked about the plans for CUA’s South Campus at a Sept. 15 presentation to the university community.

The proposed redevelopment of the university’s 8.9 acres on the south side of Michigan Avenue calls for five retail/residential buildings that will include those sidewalk cafes and other amenities. The plan also proposes 45 townhouses and a multi-purpose building for community use. The university has signed an agreement with Abdo Development to develop the space.
