The United States Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Va.Memorial
The United States Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Va., is one of the more than 100 structures Michael D. Flynn has had a hand in building since he graduated from CUA with a B.Arch. degree in 1957. He is a partner with the architectural firm Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, where he oversees building envelopes (i.e., building exteriors) and exposed structures.

The 270-foot-tall memorial, designed by James Ingo Freed, mimics the exhaust trails of three Air Force Thunderbirds as they peel back in a precision “bomb burst” maneuver. Flynn was responsible for development of the surface finish of the stainless-steel spires and for the method of fabricating and erecting this veterans memorial.
