Four of CUA’s autumn sports teams earned the right to compete in the multistate tournaments hosted by the Eastern College Athletic Conference, which match up some of the most successful teams that weren’t invited to the NCAA tournaments.

Football
The football team capped off a 9-2 season with their first postseason win since 1935, an 18-17 Nov. 22 victory over Johns Hopkins University that earned the Cardinals an ECAC Southeast Bowl Championship victory. Quarterback Keith Ricca, who set a CUA record by throwing 34 touchdown passes this year, was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. CUA’s Nick Olivero was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Soccer
The men’s team went 14-7 and won three postseason games before falling to King’s College in the ECAC Southern Region Championship game. Travis Beauchamp and his assistants were named Landmark Conference men’s soccer Coaching Staff of the Year.

The women’s team (10-8-2) also advanced to the ECAC tournament.

Field Hockey
The field hockey team made a postseason run before losing in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship game. The squad ended with a 14-8 record, and was undefeated (6-0) in Landmark Conference play. Gia Cillizza and her assistants were named the Landmark Conference field hockey Coaching Staff of the Year for the third consecutive season. Ro Dixon was named the conference’s top defensive player.
