CUA Appoints Director of Public Affairs
The Very Rev. David M. O’Connell, C.M., president, has appointed Victor Nakas director of Public Affairs and university spokesman. Mr. Nakas joined the university May 15.
Previously, Mr. Nakas served as communications manager for the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington D.C. He brings to the university 12 years of experience in program administration and staff management in public relations, employee communications, computer services, news dissemination, international affairs and educational exchange.
Fluent in Lithuanian, Mr. Nakas served as program specialist with the United States Information Agency, chief of staff/political and press officer for the Embassy of Lithuania and branch manager for the Lithuanian Information Center/Lithuanian Catholic Religious Aid.
He earned a master’s degree in Russian/Soviet history from the George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Michigan.
His media experience includes appearances on "The MacNeil-Lehrer Newshour," "Crossfire," "CBS This Morning," and C-SPAN call-in shows. He has interpreted for foreign dignitaries during their meetings with President Bush and other U.S. leaders.

"He is an accomplished and competent professional whose public relations background and media experience will serve CUA extremely well. Victor possesses a strong, personal commitment to the vision of faith that is at the heart of our University mission," he said.
