"FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN FAITHFUL, O LORD,
LIFE IS CHANGED, NOT ENDED."

From the Preface of the Mass of the Dead

IN MEMORIAM

Vincent P. Walter Jr.

(1938-2000)

It is with profound shock and almost unbearable sorrow that I announce the sudden death of Vincent P. Walter, Jr., Vice President and General Secretary of The Catholic University of America. He was struck and killed by an automobile on Wisconsin Avenue Thursday, August 3, 2000, at approximately 3 p.m.

The entire University community mourns his tragic passing, a loss that cannot be measured in words. I can only say that he was unflagging in his dedication to his beloved alma mater, a relationship that began during his childhood years at the campus school. I have never known a man as loyal and faithful as Vincent Walter. He shall be missed greatly by all of us who knew and loved him.

Our prayers and sympathy are extended to his wife, Elaine, and to their children.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 4, at 12:10, in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

The Very Reverend David M. O'Connell, C.M.

President
