Summer Mass Now Offered

This year marks the first time a summer Mass for students has been offered on campus.

The 9 p.m., Sunday Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Chapel began as a way to reach students living in the Brookland area who often work odd hours and have trouble attending the morning services offered off-campus.

While campus officials at first were concerned the lack of air conditioning might keep students away, they’ve noted a steady attendance of 40 to 50 people since starting the summer Mass in May.

"We’re very happy with that number," said the Rev. Robert Schlageter, O.F.M., Conv., director of Campus Ministry. "Now we’re looking into expanding the service with a music ministry."

Volunteers are needed to help as sacristans, lectors, eucharistic ministers and music ministers. Those interested can call Father Schlageter at 319-5575.
