CUA Appoints Executive Director of Alumni Relations

Steve Koppi, B.A. 1988, has been appointed executive director of alumni relations at The Catholic University of America. He will begin his new position December 4.

Koppi was most recently the director of career planning at American University in Washington, D.C. Among his accomplishments, he significantly increased on-campus recruitment and collaborated with the university’s Alumni Relations Office to create a web-based alumni career networking service.

Prior to joining the staff at American, Koppi held key administrative posts at prominent East Coast universities. He was associate director of career planning and development at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and associate director of career services at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt. He was a job locator-developer in the Career Planning Services Department and recruiter and teaching assistant in the Education Department at Brown University in Providence, R.I.

"I could not be happier with the appointment of Steve Koppi as director of alumni relations," said the Very Reverend David M. O’Connell, C.M., J.C.D 1990, President. "For the last three years I have become increasingly concerned about the university's lack of real connection to its alumni throughout the country. It was not only essential to find an alumnus or alumna to direct the operation, but we also needed to find the right alumnus or alumna. In Steve Koppi, Class of 1988, we have found that person," Father O’Connell said.

"The university is very fortunate to attract Steve Koppi," agreed Richard Collins, vice president for institutional advancement. "His broad experience in higher education will have a positive impact on our alumni program. His recent service on the CUA Alumni Board of Governors provides him with a unique perspective of our strengths — and of the challenges that we will address in the near term. Steve and his wife, Marie Troppe, B.A. 1987, are both alumni; we are thrilled to welcome them home to our university community," he said.

Koppi received his B.A. in religion from Catholic University in 1988, where he graduated summa cum laude. He earned an M.A. in college student personnel from the University of Maryland in 1992, again graduating summa cum laude. He went on to perform graduate work in human resource development at The George Washington University.

Koppi is active in various professional and volunteer organizations, including the American College Personnel Association, the National Association of Colleges and Employers, JobTRAK College Advisory Council and the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers. He is a youth group leader at the Church of Our Savior in Silver Spring, Md.
