The 2003/04 men’s and women’s
basketball teams finished their seasons at no. 1. |
The men’s
basketball team notched its 12th consecutive victory, defeating Goucher
College 62-51 in the semifinals of the 2004 Capital Athletic Conference
tournament on Feb. 26. The Cardinals (22-5, 12-2 CAC) will visit Mary
Washington College in the championship game on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.
(tentative time) in Fredericksburg, Va.
If the
men defeat Mary Washington, they receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division
III championship tournament, which would be the team’s seventh consecutive
appearance.
The
women’s team (21-6, 11-3 CAC) lost to York College of Pennsylvania 81-76 in the
semifinals of the CAC tournament on Feb. 26. However, they still hope for a
slot in the 2004 Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament.
Thanks to
victories over Goucher College on Feb. 21, Catholic University’s men’s and
women’s basketball teams each finished the regular season as co-champions in
the Capital Athletic Conference. This is the first time in the university's
history that the men's and women's teams both finished on top at the end of the
regular season. The men shared first-place honors with Mary Washington College
and the women with Marymount University.
