Pangborn Hall Reopens

Pangborn Hall reopened at 8 a.m. Friday morning, following the professional cleanup of a small amount of spilled mercury that was discovered while CUA custodial employees cleaned out a hallway containing old laboratory equipment on the building’s second floor.

After the discovery on Wednesday, the second floor was closed and approximately a teaspoonful of mercury was safely removed by CUA’s environmental health and safety staff. Pangborn Hall was closed on Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning Tri County Industries, a professional hazardous materials testing and removal company, used special equipment to confirm that the mercury spill had been limited to the second floor and to remove any trace vapors of the mercury. Following overnight ventilation of the second floor of Pangborn Hall, the company re-tested the area early on Friday and declared that it was completely safe.
