CUA Field Hockey Places 11 on National Academic
Squad, Earns National Academic Team Award
Langan and Payne lead Cardinals with 3.9+ cum. GPAs in Biology-Related Studies
WASHINGTON — The Catholic University field hockey team placed 11 student athletes on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad and was also recognized with a national academic team award.
To be eligible for the academic squad, athletes must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2004-05 academic year.
The team also garnered a NFHCA DIII National Team Award, with an overall team GPA of 3.32 for the fall term. Teams selected for this honor must achieve a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 during the fall semester of the 2004-05 academic year.
Junior Kathleen Langan (Columbia, Md./Hammond) and sophomore Megan Payne (Elkton, Md./Elkton) led the Cardinals with 3.9+ GPAs in biology with a pre-med concentration and biomedical engineering studies, respectively. Langan also was a second team All-Capital Athletic Conference pick for her athletic performance this fall.
Also receiving honors: Katie Boylan (Norristown, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick), Maureen Brady (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding), Jayme Dinsmore (Dunkirk, Md./Northern), Christy Engstrom (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford), Toni Gallo (Ocean, N.J./Academy of Allied Health and Science), Kelli McErlean (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert), Jamie Punyko (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), Tara Rutledge (Farmingdale, N.J./Howell), and Melissa Schneider (Haddonfield, N.J./Paul VI).
