CUA Among America’s "Most Wired" Universities

The Catholic University of America has earned a place among the 100 "Most Wired Universities" in the United States, according to a survey by the search engine Yahoo!

CUA was ranked 62 on a list of universities judged on technology issues including access and infrastructure, administrative services, general resources and student support.

At CUA prospective students can apply online, register for classes, obtain online transcripts and online course schedules. Every building on campus is connected to the university’s network and high-speed Internet access, students have access to 24-hour computer labs and wired residence halls and the university has boosted its number of classrooms equipped with computers. Students have access to Web tools, resources and online environments that link to desired and needed information. All faculty and staff have contemporary computers and a student computer acquisition and support program has been implemented.

The Yahoo! Internet Life survey was conducted with Peterson’s, a publisher of college guides and other education publications in print and online. More than 1,300 institutions provided information for the survey. CUA was ranked in the university category, one of four categories for which rankings were reported.

The prominent ranking was no surprise to Peter Murray, vice provost for information technologies.

"We knew that we were doing more and moving faster with all aspects of technology than were other universities," he says. "This ranking confirms that CUA has made great progress with the university's network, systems, Internet projects, student and faculty Web services, as well as incorporating technology into all aspects of campus life. Given the work under way this year, I would not be surprised if CUA were ranked in the top 50 universities in next year's publication."
