A distinguished professor of religion and Islamic studies at Yale University, Father Bowering has published numerous books and articles on Islam, including those contained in the "Encyclopaedia of Islam" and the "Encyclopedia of the Qur'an."

In his lecture, Father Bowering will examine the relationship between Christianity and Islam and explore the common ground and different dynamics of these two cultures of belief.

The lecture is part of a centennial series of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the School of Arts and Sciences. The centennial series will extend through the spring 2007 semester.

Coming events include Alumnus Joe Plummer's performance of "Will Shakespeare-Live!" (Feb. 9, 10 and 11); the performance by CUA Associate Professor of Drama Gary Sloan of "Haunted Prince: The Ghosts of Edwin Booth" at the National Portrait Gallery (March 19 and the following four Monday nights); and lectures by luminaries including Sir Patrick Cormack, member of the British Parliament (March 13), and Nobel Prize-winning physicist William Phillips (April 13).
