'CUA Magazine' Wins Five Catholic Press Awards

CUA Magazine won the CPA’s third-place for best cover. Judges said, “The quiet typography and photo illustration grab readers’ attention effectively, raising a curiosity about the topic.”

On Friday, June 4, at the conclusion of the 2010 Catholic Media Convention in New Orleans, the Catholic Press Association announced the winners of its annual awards contest. CUA Magazine, which is mailed to more than 65,000 alumni and friends of the university, was honored with five third-place awards.

The magazine was recognized in the areas of general excellence, best cover, best coverage for the Year for Priests, best feature article and best website. The best feature and general excellence awards were in the category of Professional and Special Interest Magazines.

“Priesthood: A Rich Life in a Secularized World,” by Kate Kennedy, won the awards for feature article and Year for Priest coverage. The judges said:

This story does a great job of detailing the tasks that priests face, some difficult and some not. By interviewing several priests, the author learns that they are completely fulfilled in their professions and are very humbled by their experiences. Very well-written.

Since 2006, CUA Magazine has won 20 awards from the Catholic Press Association, which represents more than 600 member organizations in the United States and Canada.
