Holiday Events at Catholic University

 
 

Catholic University's Christmas tree lighting takes place on Friday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, Third Floor Atrium.

The following events will take place over the next month at Catholic University as students, faculty, and staff prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving and the Christmas season.

Thanksgiving Dinner with Father Jude
Students who are staying on campus during Thanksgiving break are encouraged to sign up to join Rev. Jude DeAngelo, O.F.M. Conv., University chaplain and director of Campus Ministry, for dinner on Nov. 24. 

Faculty and staff are invited to donate dessert and rolls for Father Jude’s Thanksgiving dinner. Donations should be dropped off in Campus Ministry by Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m. For more information or to sign up to donate, contact Lani Collins, office manager.

Winter Apparel Drive
Through Dec. 16, the Graduate Students Association is sponsoring a collection of gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and other winter outerwear. Items can be dropped off in the Office of Campus Ministry. They will be donated to Bread for the City. For more information, call 202-319-5575.

CUA Giving Tree
From Monday, Nov. 28, to Monday, Dec. 12, the University community is invited to drop off presents at Campus Ministry for children in need. The collected gifts will be donated to the Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative. Ornaments specifying requested gifts can be found on the CUA Giving Trees in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center and John K. Mullen of Denver Memorial Library, and in baskets in Leahy Hall and Campus Ministry. Advent Confessions
Priests will visit residence halls Tuesday, Nov. 29, through Wednesday, Dec. 7, to hear confessions. A detailed schedule will be posted to http://ministry.cua.edu.

DC Nite Out: A Christmas Carol at Ford’s Theatre
On Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m., students are invited to join Program Board for a trip to Ford’s Theatre for its annual production of A Christmas Carol. Tickets are free and can be reserved at https://cua.campusgroups.com/programboard/cua-nite-live/.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
On Friday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m., Campus Ministry and the Office of Campus Activities host Light the Season! The Annual Christmas Concert for Charity will take place Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Great Upper Church.
 
 

Christmas Concert for Charity
The Annual Christmas Concert for Charity, co-sponsored by The Catholic University of America and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, will take place Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. The CUA Symphony Orchestra and University Chorus will perform along with the Choir of the Basilica. Paskong Pinoy

Filipino Organization of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) and the Embassy of the Philippines present this annual Christmas celebration on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Pryzbyla Center, Great Room. For more information, contact Jonathan Gray.

Women’s Chorus Christmas Concert

I'm Dreaming of a Cancer Free Christmas

From Monday, Dec. 5, to Saturday, Dec. 10, Colleges Against Cancer will be raising money for the American Cancer Society by selling luminaria stockings to honor loved ones who have survived cancer or to remember loved ones who have lost their battles to cancer. The stockings can be customized and hung on office or residence hall room doors. The group will also be selling “I'm Dreaming of a Cancer Free Christmas” T-shirts.

The week of fundraising will end on Saturday, Dec. 10, with the second annual I'm Dreaming of a Cancer Free Christmas Concert featuring a capella groups Redline, Sixtus, and Take Note at 8 p.m. in the Pryzbyla Center, Great Room. Fair Trade Christmas Bazaar

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
On Thursday, Dec. 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the University will be closed.
University Masses for the holy day of obligation will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 5:10 p.m. in Caldwell Chapel, and on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 5:10 p.m. in Caldwell Chapel and 9 p.m. at St. Vincent’s Chapel. For more information, call 202-319-5575.

Mistletoe Ball

Christmas Carols at the Armed Forces Retirement Home
On Saturday, Dec.10, the Graduate Students Association will lead a trip to the Armed Forces Retirement Center to sing Christmas carols and visit with residents. To sign up, email gsa.outreach@gmail.com. The event will begin at 9 am at the Pryzbyla Center with refreshments before departing for the Center.
