Team Capitol D.C. Harvest has launched a website detailing the solar decathlon team, its members and its mission.

Capitol D.C. Harvest, which includes students from Catholic, American, and George Washington universities, is one of 20 teams designing a house for the 2013 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Decathlon, a biennial competition that will take place October 2013 in Irvine, Calif. Teams compete to design and build a house that is both energy efficient and aesthetically pleasing.

After the competition, Team Capitol D.C. Harvest plans to donate the house to a veteran.

In past years, the houses have been located on the National Mall for viewing by the public. For the 2013 competition, the houses will be installed at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, Calif.

Architecture students at Catholic University designed the house to be built; George Washington University students will develop the landscaping and the house’s interior and work on the engineering systems; and students from American University will develop graphics and a film for the project.
