Music School to Offer Summer Concerts

The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America presents the following events for the summer semester. Unless otherwise noted, events take place on the Catholic University campus: 620 Michigan Ave., N.E., Washington D.C.

Bel Cantanti and CUA Joint Opera Festival 2013

Bel Cantanti, an opera company under the direction of Katerina Souvorova, was formed in 2003 to give performance opportunities to local operatic talent. Its members consist of young opera professionals whose collective performance experiences include fully staged operatic productions in different venues around the country and abroad.

The five concerts, from June 9 to 23, all at Ward Hall, include:

Russian Art Song Recital. Sunday, June 9, 3 p.m., at John Paul Hall. A recital of Russian art songs of Bulakhov, Glinka, Dargomyzhsky, Rubinstein, Borodin, Tchaikovsky, Musorgky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff, and others. Accompanied by the projection of the paintings of Russian fine art. Also accompanied by Nicholas Catravas, Nathan Blair, and Katerina Souvorova.

Die Fledermaus. Friday, June 21, 7:30 p.m. Ward Recital Hall. Music by J. Strauss. Conducted by Joel Borelli-Boudreau, conductor of the Bel Cantanti Opera (BCO) chamber orchestra. Sung in German with English spoken dialogues and projected English supertitles.

Orphee aux Enfers. Saturday, June 22, 7:30 p.m. Ward Recital Hall. Music by J. Offenbach. Conducted by Katerina Souvorova, conductor of the BCO chamber orchestra. Sung in French with English spoken dialogues and projected English supertitles

Die Fledermaus. Sunday, June 23, 2:30 p.m., Ward Recital Hall. Music by J. Strauss. Conducted by Joel Borelli-Boudreau, conductor of the BCO chamber orchestra. Sung in German with English spoken dialogues and projected English supertitles.

Orphee aux Enfers. Sunday, June 23, 6 p.m., Ward Recital Hall. Music by J. Offenbach. Conducted by Katerina Souvorova, conductor of the BCO chamber orchestra. Sung in French with English spoken dialogues and projected English supertitles.

Tickets purchased online are $27 for adults and $15 for students. At the door, they are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students. Tickets are $20 per person for groups of 10 or more. Concerts of selected 2013 WIPF Participants. (Free admission). Thursday, Aug. 1, and Friday, Aug. 2, 6 p.m. John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Millennium Stage. The concerts, which will be webcast online at www.kennedy-center.org, will be presented by the 2013 WIPF selected participants and will include both solo and piano ensemble music. Auditions (free and open to public) will be held on Tuesday, July 30, in Ward Recital Hall on CUA's campus.

Closing Concert of the 2013 WIPF Participants. (Free admission). Saturday, Aug. 3, 11 a.m. Ward Recital Hall.
