Marketing Professor Named First Edward J. Pryzbyla Chair of Business and Economics

Brian Engelland, associate dean and professor of marketing in the School of Business and Economics and professor of marketing, has been named the first-ever Edward J. Pryzbyla Chair of Business and Economics.

The endowed chair was established in 2002 with a gift from the late Edward Pryzbyla, B.A. 1925.

“Mr. Edward Pryzbyla’s generosity and commitment to his alma mater are reflected in the beauty of the CUA campus. He gave his support and name to the university center, and donated hundreds of trees and other plantings throughout campus,” said Andrew Abela, dean of the business and economics school, at an event Nov. 11 recognizing Engelland. “His gifts are making a difference in the lives of CUA students, generation after generation.”

Engelland was unanimously endorsed by the business and economics faculty for the endowed chair. His research focuses on how marketing executives “think” — or how they process inputs in making determinations on how to market products and services.

He has published more than 70 refereed publications and five books, won multiple teaching awards, and been named as a fellow of the Marketing Management Association. Last year he was named as winner of the Lifetime Contributor to Marketing Award by the Society for Marketing Advances.

“The supportive presence and love for our University and for the Catholic Church of both of these men — Dr. Brian Engelland and Mr. Edward Pryzbyla — are a model for us all today,” Abela said.
