As March Madness begins, Catholic University’s Department of Athletics has reason for celebration.

On Saturday, Feb. 28, the women’s basketball team knocked off the University of Scranton, the number one team in the Landmark Conference, to win the Landmark Conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals beat the Royals by one point, 52-51, for the team’s third conference championship in four years. The Cardinals will play the University of New England in Madison, N.J., on March 6 in the Division III NCAA Tournament. In their first game of the season, the Cardinals downed the Seagulls 13 to 12 in overtime. This was the first victory over a number one nationally ranked team for a CUA women's lacrosse team.
