Laurie Singel, M.S.N. 1996 (NURS), was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio on Oct. 1, 2008. She is a clinical assistant professor at the School of Nursing and is currently a course coordinator for a junior-year medical-surgical nursing course focusing on chronic health issues. She is also pursuing a Ph.D. in education at Walden University, focusing on cognitive-sensory functioning and teaching-learning styles. She lives in San Antonio with her husband, Ken, and their three children.
Brian J. MacDonough, B.A. 1998 (A&S), of North Grafton, Mass., has been named co-chair of the Brown Bag Lunch Committee of the Labor and Employment Section of the Boston Bar Association. The Labor and Employment Section is concerned with courts, arbitration, and state and federal agencies in the areas of labor and employment, labor-management relations and employment discrimination. MacDonough is an associate at Shilepsky O’Connell Casey Hartley Michon Yelen LLP.
Susan Oetgen, M.M. 1999 (MUSIC), founder, vocalist and composer of the Brooklyn-based indie “chamber-pop” quartet Likeness to Lily, has released a second album of original compositions, entitled Farewell, Recruit. A blend of jazz, classical and alternative rock music, the 12 original songs document emotional narratives of courage, vulnerability, resignation and struggle to find hope in wartime America. The record contains the multimedia song cycle she wrote for the Brooklyn Philharmonic’s “Music Off the Walls” chamber music series at the Brooklyn Museum in March 2008.
